Biography

Chris Livesay is a foreign correspondent for CBS News, based in Rome. In 2021 his crew was the first American network to report from India on the country’s catastrophic outbreak of Covid. In 2020 his crew was the first inside an Italian ICU at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Later that year he offered a rare look inside Belarus as protests swept across the former Soviet republic, challenging allegedly rigged elections, as Europe’s so-called “last dictator” cracked down violently on demonstrators and journalists. In 2018 he was the first American TV correspondent to report from Libya in one year, and had to flee the country amid government threats for shedding light on migrant trafficking, torture, and abuse. In 2016, he was among the first journalists to report from Mosul, on the battle to uproot ISIS. He holds a master’s degree (highest honors) from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. His public speaking experience ranges from The Carnegie Endowment and The Pulitzer Center in the US, to universities and think tanks across Europe.
