By Chris Michaels Verified| WRAL-TV (Raleigh, NC) Verified For many in North Carolina, April 16, 2011, is a date that's cemented in our memory. It was a day when 30 tornadoes tore through the state, injuring hundreds and killing two dozen people. We look back on the meteorology and memories from one of the state's most active weather days on record. Here is a link to the story we did last year about the outbreak. What caused the outbreak, and what made it so bad? I went back and took a snapshot of the surface analysis from that Saturday afternoon
By Chris Michaels Verified| WRAL-TV (Raleigh, NC) Verified The National Weather Service offices in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Paducah, Kentucky, concluded that a tornado in mid-March traveled nearly 118 miles. In Missouri alone, this outbreak caused more than a dozen tornadoes. In Arkansas, it produced 15 tornadoes. This tornado's path was extremely long, but the record for longest tornado in Arkansas was back in 2008. It traveled almost 122 miles. That's according to the Midwestern Regional Climate Center. Why did it take a month to get the results?
