Biography
I'm a freelance science and environmental reporter and audio producer based in Chicago, Illinois. I'm currently an intern for the audio storytelling team at NASA, which produces the agency's flagship podcast, Curious Universe. I've reported and produced audio stories for radio and podcasts for outlets like WBEZ, Chicago Public Media, Deutsche Welle (DW) and WVIK, Quad Cities NPR and have written feature stories for National Geographic, Scientific American, Undark, Hakai, Sierra, Discover and MIT Technology Review. My work has been republished in Popular Science and The Atlantic. I received my master's degree in science and environmental journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in 2022. Before that, I graduated from Augustana College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in cultural anthropology and environmental studies and a concentration of classes in computer science. I found my love of storytelling in anthropology, a social science discipline that straddles the boundary between the sciences and the humanities and attempts to communicate complex theories about the world through grounded, personal stories. My dual background in the sciences and the humanities, ethnographic and laboratory research, prepared me to understand science as a culturally situated and limited form of knowledge production that requires finding narratives within data and framing them in particular ways to affect public attitudes.
