Josh Stein recently broke ground on the new "Blue Haven" site in Newland alongside other partners. Blue Haven is where more than 45 homes will be built, part of Church's promise to construct 100 homes for Hurricane Helene victims after a major concert in Charlotte raised more than $24 million. The ceremony began with a welcome from Chief Cares CEO John Blackburn before introducing Avery Long Term Recovery Group member Ruth Shirley.

Moody, born and raised in the Plumtree area, is excited about the new opportunity. “I’ve always wanted to be involved with the Forest Service, and forest management,” said Moody. A “smoke chaser” is an employee who responds to wildfires during the spring and fall fire seasons.
