Biography
Christina Binkley is The Wall Street Journal's fashion and style columnist, a regular on-air commentator, and author of the New York Times bestseller Winner Takes All. From the vantage of her weekly column in the paper's Personal Journal section, she critiques fashion runways from New York to Milan and Paris, and takes readers behind fashion's velvet curtains, with frequent forays into the arts and entertainment. She contributes to the Journal's Weekend, Review and Off Duty sections, as well as to WSJ. Magazine, and appears periodically on venues such as CNN and National Public Radio. A graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Binkley hasn't always covered fashion, and certainly never expected to. On the Journal's staff since 1994, she covered travel, hotels and gambling, and was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize for their work covering 9/11. Her gambling coverage led to her book, an inside view of the battle to control Las Vegas by the city's titans, Steve Wynn and Kirk Kerkorian, and a Harvard economist named Gary Loveman. A providential opportunity to test drive a Ferrari, and write about it, led to her current job covering fashion, proving that just saying "yes" is an apt career strategy. Before joining the Journal’s staff, Binkley worked at the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader and the Tallahassee Democrat, and even toiled as a stringer for the Philadelphia Inquirer. These days, she tweets as @BinkleyOnStyle, and Instagrams, Pinterests and Touts as time permits. While many people expect Binkley to be based in New York or Paris, in fact, she lives in the hills of Los Angeles with her husband and two children, with cats, a dog, four precocious chickens and a dead-on view of the Hollywood sign. That's where you'll find her when she's not at the office, on a plane, or waiting for a fashion show to get started already.

By Christina Binkley Verified| Vogue Business Verified Versace’s fit with Capri Holdings, the much-hyped American luxury conglomerate, always felt to me like a square peg in a round hole — a flamboyant maker of Italian ready-to-wear and haute couture operated by a US company known for its ubiquitous sporty accessories. So rumours that Capri has put Versace up for sale after only six years feel inevitable. I hear it’s Prada Group’s acquisition, if Prada wants it, which could make sense. A return to the Milanese fold.
By Christina Binkley Verified| Vogue Business Verified Late in 2020, Jean-Marc Bellaiche, chief executive of France’s Printemps department stores, found himself being led by an investor towards a once-grand Art Deco building in New York City’s then-forlorn financial district. Printemps’s owner, the Qatari-backed investment fund Divine Investments SA, hoped Bellaiche would open a store in the building, which it was redeveloping with 560 luxury residences. “I’m thinking, it’s a tough market. The likelihood of doing it is low,” Bellaiche recalls.
