By Claire Berlinski| Claire’s Invariably Interesting Thoughts@ They have faithfully attended my Middle East 101 and my Middle East 201 class for more than a year and a half. They have diligently done the reading, watched the documentaries, pored over the source documents, come to class prepared, participated in the discussions, and thrown themselves into learning about the politics and history of the Middle East with a curiosity and a diligence that puts undergraduates around the world to shame. Some of them even met me in Morocco for a real-world study tour.
By Claire Berlinski| Claire’s Invariably Interesting Thoughts@ You don’t need to know anything about economics to grasp how harmful all of this has been. No Keynes, no MMT, no nothing. Common sense will get you there. Imagine you’re an American business owner. Big or small, it doesn’t matter. One day, you learn that a product you sell—or a product you need to make a product in you sell—has just been tariffed—taxed, that is—up the wazoo. The tariff is so high that your business is no longer viable.
