Streets were blocked off, helicopters were in flight, SWAT teams were deployed and snipers were seen on the roofs of homes. This forced families to shelter in place after a man stole beer from a nearby Rite Aid. Both Bakersfield police and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office searched for a possibly armed suspect.

The city says 10-15 people, including the manager, were kicked-off the property. “I don’t have a plan. We’re gonna tent up and I know that this year they passed a law that we can’t even sit out on the streets or be homeless on the streets because it’s against the law now….I don’t know what we’re gonna do,” said Ida Maynor, a resident.
