Biography
All The President's Men' by The Washington Post’s reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward is the seed of inspiration behind my journalism. It took me 14 years after I read the book before I joined The Kathmandu Post, as a copy editor, in 1999. A year later, I got my first byline. The expose on Lauda Air lease scam followed soon. I have extensive experience in reporting and writing in South Asia. At present, I am a reporter with Wausau Pilot & Review, a digital news outlet in Wausau, WI through Report for America. Previously, I worked for two of the biggest daily newspapers in India and Nepal, The Hindu and The Kathmandu Post, respectively. I also helped launch Republica daily and its website, www.myrepublica.com. Later, I founded a fact-checking news website, www.southasiacheck.org under the aegis of Panos South Asia, a media development nonprofit, as its executive director overseeing the operation in India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. As a reporter and an editor for the newspapers in South Asia, I have covered war, earthquakes, unequal citizenship for women in Nepal, human rights, refugees, politics, parliament, foreign affairs and civil aviation. I am passionate about journalism’s watchdog role. The attacks on independent media only go to demonstrate its vital role. In my spare time, I like to take long walks, and read, especially about people who never give up – whether they are featured in an article, an anecdote, or a book. I am a 2007 Nieman fellow. I have also received training in investigative reporting from the New England Center for Investigative Reporting (NECIR) at Boston University and audited a week-long course on investigative journalism at Columbia Journalism School, both in 2011.
