Biography

Hello, and thanks for visiting. I’m Dan Eldridge, an independent journalist and guidebook author based in Philadelphia. I write frequently about business and entrepreneurship, commercial real estate and development, economic development, consumer technology, travel, music and the arts, and the publishing industry. Most recently the managing editor of the Consumer Technology Publishing Group (CTPG), a division of North American Publishing Company, I've also worked as the Pittsburgh City Paper‘s music editor, the Philadelphia Weekly‘s copy editor, and the books and music editor for an English-language general interest magazine published in Istanbul, Turkey. I’m the author of all three editions of Moon Pittsburgh (Avalon Travel); the guide’s first edition was nominated for Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award. I’m also the co-author of four Lonely Planet guidebooks (to Turkey, Southeast Asia, the Philippines and New England), and as a freelancer I’ve written for the New York Times, Columbia Journalism Review, Forbes Travel, Daily Telegraph (UK), Houston Chronicle, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Next American City, Paste, Tango, Made Man, BBC.com, and many others. I was also the founding editor of Young Pioneers, a magazine about independent travel culture that was nominated for an Independent Press Award by the Utne Reader. I’m currently in the process of relaunching Young Pioneers as a magazine about unusually creative entrepreneurs. I’m a graduate of the Transitions Online (TOL) Foreign Correspondent Training Course in Prague, Czech Republic, and I currently serve on the board of the Writers Emergency Assistance Fund (WEAF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization headed by the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA).
