My essays have appeared in Oxford American, Psychology Today, The Sun, Bark, The Writer, Fourth Genre, Alaska Quarterly Review, Limehawk Literary Review, Parade.com, WritersDigest.com, and others. I have been a Lifestyle columnist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press since 2002, and was the editor of the Chattanooga Jewish Federation magazine, The Shofar. My memoir, The Body Tourist, was published in 2014. My work has been nominated for Best American Essays and a Pushcart. I have been a nonfiction workshop presenter and panelist at Pennsylvania’s Keystone College Literature Conference (The Gathering), the Meacham Writers Conference, and the Chattanooga Writers Guild conference. She was a classic beauty, with curly dark hair, dark eyes highlighted by perfectly applied mascara and liner, and a mysterious smile. She was a smart dresser with an artsy flair, always pairing patterns and textures and accessories in inventive ways. Her humor was sharp and unforgiving. She was also an anxious driver, a picky under-eater, and a stickler for cleanliness.

I'd thrown back a whopping dose of cough syrup before going to bed, hoping to shut down the dry hacking that was making my chest wall hurt and my head ache.
