By Daniel Hall Verified| The Chronicle Verified A rare bird has been spotted taking a "well-earned rest" at a Northumberland nature reserve. When volunteer Pauline Gilbertson spotted a ring ouzel at Hauxley Nature Reserve, she was thrilled as they are an unusual sight at the coast. The bird appeared to be "refuelling" at the coastal nature reserve near Druridge Bay. A type of thrush which is a little larger than a blackbird, the ring ouzel was spotted several times at Hauxley last week.

By Daniel Hall Verified| The Chronicle Verified A wooden panel lost for more than 30 years in a Northumberland landmark could be the missing part in a series of medieval panel paintings, art conservators say. The painting is believed to be part of Hexham Abbey's Dance of Death sequence, a series of four surviving wooden panel paintings which date back to around 1500. They illustrate Death visiting powerful figure, including a cardinal, a king, an emperor and the Pope.
