Centre for Policy Studies

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) is a prominent centre-right think tank in Britain, established in 1974 by Sir Keith Joseph and Margaret Thatcher. It is known for shaping the policy framework of Thatcherism and focuses on promoting enterprise, ownership, and prosperity through conservative principles. CPS aims to foster a new generation of conservative thought by addressing key policy areas such as taxation, economic growth, business, welfare, housing, and the environment. The organization produces policy papers, conducts research, and collaborates with influential policy thinkers, including Conservative MPs. It also hosts events and debates to encourage intellectual discussions. Additionally, CPS operates CapX, a platform for commentary on policies that support freedom and prosperity. The CPS has played a significant role in developing various policy initiatives, including the Lifetime ISA and improvements in literacy standards through synthetic phonics in schools. It is funded entirely by donations from supporters and is led by director Robert Colvile.
