Oerther (pronounced O' thur) is a Professor of Environmental Health Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology and an Academic Member of the Society for Environmental Journalists. Prior to joining Missouri S&T, Dan taught at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dan was a Foreign Affairs Officer and served as the Senior Science Advisor in the Secretary’s Office of Global Food Security at the United States Department of State. He was a Fulbright Scholar to England, Fulbright-ALCOA Distinguished Chair to Brazil, and Fulbright-Pai Endowed Professorship / Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Scholar, both to India. Currently, Dr. Oerther is employed part-time as the Executive Director of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. As a science communicator, Dr. Oerther is known for reporting on interprofessional education and modified mastery learning, including the V-shaped profession of the nurse+engineer. As a researcher, he is known for community-based participatory research improving access to clean water and nutritious food, local to global, through sustainable technology and improved social contracts. Professor Oerther is a licensed Professional Engineer. He is Board Certified in Environmental Engineering as well as Environmental Science. Dan is a Certified Environmental Health Specialist and a Diplomate Laureate of the American Academy of Sanitarians. Also he is a lifetime honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

  • Local scout troop recognized as best

    By Daniel Oerther| Phelps County Focus Verified As part of the 100th anniversary celebration of Camp Arrowhead, Scout Troop 85 was recognized with the Allen C. Foster Troop of the Week award. Barney Oerther, who currently holds the rank of Star Scout, accepted the award. Also present was his father, Assistant Scout Master Daniel Oerther. Saint Patrick’s parish in Rolla is the charter organization for Troop 85. The Scoutmaster is Kirby Moreland of St. James. Camp Arrowhead is located near Marshfield.
