Biography

I am a documentary photographer and web developer-journalist based in Denver. My passions in life are making good pictures and seeing stories come together, whether a single image or a long-term investigative package, in accessible and innovative presentations online. I grew up in Beaverton, a suburb of Portland, Ore., and learned early the beauty of nature from the green and majestic Pacific Northwest. Moving to Colorado in my youth only served to deepen my love of the natural world. My enthusiasm for storytelling was sparked when I discovered my father’s old typewriter gathering dust. Writing expanded to editing when I discovered my talent for helping others develop their stories, and print evolved into digital as publishing moved forward and I moved from typewriters to computers. I branched into social media, design and development in order to help create unique and broad-scope presentations online, and to bring readers into stories with interactive elements. Photography is a much younger passion for me; things that didn’t click when I took pictures earlier in life suddenly did as an adult, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Making pictures, more than any other creative outlet, marries vision and inspiration with technical and mechanical processes that challenge and intrigue me.

Colorado Public Radio

Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is a non-profit, member-supported public radio network that has been serving Colorado since 1951. It began with KRCC and evolved into its current form in 1991 after merging with KPRN. CPR operates three main services: a news division that provides statewide coverage, a classical music service featuring local artists, and a platform for independent music that highlights both local and national indie musicians. CPR's network includes full-power stations and low-power translators, reaching 90% of Colorado's population. The organization is primarily funded through private donations, business sponsorships, and foundations, with a significant portion of its revenue coming from these sources. CPR is part of a larger public radio network and aims to offer free access to news and cultural programming, focusing on local relevance and public service. Its digital presence includes popular news websites that provide articles, podcasts, and cultural content.
