The developer came to him with plans to knock it down and Weckenmann pleaded with him to spare it. He even drew up the plans that would have converted the 19th-century landmark into an apartment. In the end, the city’s Zoning Board denied the application because it lacked ground-floor commercial space. Perhaps the assumption was that the developer would come back with a better plan.
