The Lady Tornadoes continued their challenging non-district schedule Wednesday afternoon by beating visiting Gibbs 5-4. Senior right-hander Gabby Burkhart and junior right-hander Makenna McCarter combined on a six-hitter for Alcoa (23-6), the Class 2A state champion in 2022. Gibbs (23-3) won the Class 3A state championship last year. “We like playing these big games,” McCarter said.
