  • Key bridge replacement for Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, on fast track

    By Dave Ress Verified| Richmond Times-Dispatch Verified Legislation this year aimed at speeding work on some of Virginia’s most essential bridges and tunnels is seeing a first payback with a fast-track replacement for the aging and nerve-wracking Rappahannock River crossing from the Middle Peninsula to the Northern Neck. Work on a replacement for the 68-year-old Robert Opie Norris Bridge, a 2-mile span with narrow lanes, no shoulders and a 110-foot drop from its center span to the river, will now begin in 2028. That’s eight years ahead of schedule.
