By Dave Ruthenberg Verified| The Newport Plain Talk Verified When Cocke County Sheriff's deputies were alerted via dispatch Monday at 8:47 p.m. of a potentially intoxicated driver entering the county on Hooper Highway from Sevier County, they quickly responded to what turned out to be an extended, dangerous pursuit. The chase eventually involved several officers, three damaged patrol vehicles, Taser deployment and guns being drawn, resulting in a Newport man being arrested on nine charges.

It was also one of only two counties with a jobless rate above 6%. The county’s rate did decrease from 7% in January.
