By David Dillman| Galveston County Daily News Verified I know you are probably wondering what the title of this column is about After all, it is Good Friday, but like the observance of this day, this column is on a somber note. This has to do with tournament fishing and consequences of traversing the water at a high rate of speed. Tournament fishing is all the craze now. There has been a big expansion of saltwater tournaments on our coast and all over most gulf states, same with bass fishing. It used to be that BASS was the big tournament.
By David Dillman| Galveston County Daily News Verified Well, we can't really complain about the air temperature this week. Even the humidity has been low. It's been a very nice first half of the week. Looking ahead to Thursday, then Good Friday through Easter, our winds will be increasing from the south/southeast to around 20 miles per hour. This will also be accompanied by an increasing chance of rain. I wouldn't scratch any outdoor plans just yet, as the forecast will likely change. I had one guy scheduled from a fishing trip Monday.

Galveston County Daily News
The Galveston County Daily News serves Texas as the oldest and one of the most respected community newspapers in the state. Continuously publishing since 1842, The Daily News is more than a survivor — it's a thriver in the face of opportunity and challenges. We've informed and led our community through hurricanes, statehood, the Civil War and everything between. At 180, we're just getting started. The Daily News is a seven-day news organization, publishing online each day. Our high-quality premium printed newspaper is published Tuesday through Friday and followed by a powerful weekend edition. Coast Monthly, award-winning and considered by many one of the top Texas lifestyle magazines produced by a local newspaper, artfully tells the stories of those who live and embrace the exciting coastal lifestyle. The Daily News organizes the Press Run, a unique opportunity for athletes of all ages and skill levels to run across the Galveston causeway, a 2-mile bridge connecting the mainland with the island. The race raises money to provide reading materials to local students. An important part of Galveston County, we are highly-engaged with our community by supporting local events and contributions to non-profit organizations. To us, community journalism and helping local businesses thrive is a special calling. If you're interested in joining us, please feel free to message us.
