By David Erickson Verified| Missoulian Verified Voters in East Missoula recently got a surprise when they found out that a levy to raise funds for the East Missoula Rural Fire District, which will be on the May 6 special election ballot, will be for quite a bit more than they were originally told. But the 25-year-old volunteer fire chief, Tyler Munoz, said the levy is desperately needed at the all-volunteer station to pay for life-saving equipment, response times, repairs and to hopefully attract more volunteers.

In March, there were 95 reports of suspected opioid overdoses compared to an average of about 69 per month in the state in 2024. The last time there were this many reported overdoses in a single month was August of 2023. From March 1 to April 15, there were an estimated seven fatal overdoses and 132 nonfatal overdoses.
