While it is easy to understand why the economy appears to many as inscrutable, we must not let ourselves willfully fall into the trap of obscurantism. Changing the world for the better first requires an accurate understanding of it; this will simply not be achieved by borrowing the assumptions of those who wish to keep things the way they are.
