  • On This Day: Harry Clarke, stained glass artist, is born in Dublin

By Debra Kelly| IrishCentral Verified Ireland has no shortage of churches and cathedrals, but some of them are home to stained glass masterpieces by Ireland's own, world-renowned artist, Harry Clarke. Harry Patrick Clarke was born on March 17, 1877 - St. Patrick's Day - in Dublin. Clarke was the son of a decorator (who had founded Joshua Clarke & Sons) and his young life was shaped by his father's ever-present work in his art studio and by his mother, Brigid. He was only 14 years old when his mother died, and he was devastated.

  • Ireland’s Travel Secrets: The Neale, home to Ireland's pyramid in Co Mayo

By Debra Kelly| IrishCentral Verified The monuments of Neale remain strange landmarks in a town whose history still lies largely undiscovered. "The Quiet Man" was decades ago but Cong has remained a bustling destination scene for those wanting to visit the location of John Ford's epic masterpiece. The surrounding countryside is full of hidden treasures as well, as long as you know where to look. Head north out of Cong on R345 and you'll come to a small village called The Neale (An Eill).
