Biography
I began blogging about the NBA in 2010 while living in Minneapolis. In 2013, the Minnesota Timberwolves credentialed me as media to cover the team. Since then, my writing and podcast work has been featured in a number of places, including SKOR North (formerly 1500 ESPN), Vox Media's SB Nation, Hardwood Paroxysm among many others. Beginning in 2017, I began covering the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx near the end of the dynasty. After moving out west in 2020, I shifted coverage to the Seattle Storm for The Next, a women's basketball outlet. After a one-year hiatus, I launched my own independent publication, By Derek James, to cover all things professional basketball. While I do not have my own anymore, I enjoy podcast appearances and some of my feature things to write are features and profiles.
