Biography

I was born a Richard in Montreal and grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I've studied music, journalism and all sorts of other things. My writing career began at The Globe and Mail in 1995 as a copy editor and editor for foreign and local news. I worked in the travel, news, arts and lifestyle departments, edited the fashion and style sections and oversaw the National Magazine Award-winning Fashion + Design Quarterly. I left the Globe and became creative director for Redwood (renamed Totem), a marketing communications company. I've worked with most of Canada's major newspapers and magazines. These days, I write about food, drinks, guitars, music, travel and other fun stuff for publications such as Zoomer, Canada’s 100 Best, The Toronto Star, Sotheby's and Harry. I am the executive editor for Canada's 100 Best Restaurants magazine and the automotive editor for CAA Magazine. I also write corporate stuff. I have a Diploma in Wines and Spirits from WSET, and have judged wines for a variety of competitions. My travels are often wine-oriented.
