Tomas Soucek’s ninth-minute header gave the Irons the lead before Aaron Wan-Bissaka doubled their advantage in the 54th minute. Newcastle went into Monday’s clash coming off two impressive victories over Arsenal and Nottingham Forest before the international break.

  • Sunderland 1 Newcastle United 2: Lumsden double gives Magpies Derby delight

    By Dominic Aberdeen| sportsbyte.sunderland.ac.uk@ There was late drama as Sunderland fell to a 2-1 defeat in the Wear-Tyne Derby to Newcastle United in front of a record-breaking Stadium of Light crowd.  Beth Lumsden’s brace gave the Magpies a two-goal advantage, including a goal direct from a corner in the second half. Emily Scarr’s 78th-minute tap-in was merely consolation as the Toon held on for victory in the Derby.

  • Match Report: Consett 1-2 South Shields

Dan Savage and Joao Gomes struck early in the first half to give Shields a comfortable lead. Adam Lennox converted from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute to reduce the scoreline but it wouldn't be enough. Elliott Dickman's side arrived in County Durham looking for a fourth-consecutive pre-season win.
