Sports and education reporter for The Star in Shelby, North Carolina. I split my time between beat reporting on our 27 public schools plus one charter school and a community college and providing sports coverage to four local high schools, as well as American Legion baseball and softball. I also do general assignment news and feature stories, cover breaking news and occasionally cover crime. Prior to coming to The Star I spent three years at the Kinston Free Press, where I covered schools, crime, local government, local business and other beats for three counties. My first news gig was at the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, where I I was a freelance writer covering life, faith and entertainment. I was brought into that paper after completing a successful internship there, where I covered courts, local government and lifestyle stories. I hold a B.S. in Communication, with focuses in broadcasting and journalism, from Western Carolina University and have experience in live television and radio, as well as video and audio capturing and editing.
