Biography
I am production journalist with a MA in Journalism from Dublin City University and I have a keen interest in arts and culture. I intend on building myself up as a correspondent on arts and culture in Irish media. Through my experience with previous roles in Today FM, Oxygen.ie and the University Observer, I have developed my ability to create interesting and factual articles on a variety of subjects from national news stories to arts and pop culture pieces. A particular highlight of my career to date is when I published an investigative article on the PHYS20050 Cell-Cell Communication exam re-sit, which was picked up by national media publications. In 2019, I was honoured to receive the “Best Human Rights Story” award from the Student Publication Association at their national conference in York, for my investigative piece on the life of a third-level student living in Direct Provision. I have shown my ability to learn and take on responsibility in a short amount of time. I have written for News, Features, Comment, Business & Careers, both in print and online, as well as writing for OTwo. In my role of Arts and Literature editor, and later, OTwo editor, I have interviewed high profile individuals in the arts world, such as Willie White and the BUMP&GRIND theatre company. I have branched out from print media and co-produced a weekly news and current affair radio show, The Paper Round, with the editors of both UCD student newspapers. I have also produced and reported video packages for core modules with my degree. As deputy editor of the University , I reported the results from the executive elections, referenda and by-election within UCD on the publication’s social media accounts and contributed to the analysis of the election on the newspaper’s website. This experience no doubt aided me when I assisted on the 2020 General Election coverage in the Waterford constituency with RTE.
