By Earl J. Lum| LinkedIn@ #MWC24LV #ejlwireless I recently attended MWC Las Vegas and it dawned on me that besides missing 2020 & 2021 due to COVID-19, I have attended the event since 1998. That is 24 years of CTIA prior to GSMA's taking it over and renaming it Mobile World Congress Americas in 2017 as a last ditch attempt by CTIA to keep the event from finally dying. At that event in San Francisco, there was a huge lightning storm over the city on the opening day of the event.
By Earl J. Lum| LinkedIn@ 6 Days of meetings, dinners, and conversations coupled with one mugging and the FitBit Stats were 116,945 steps (51 miles). First of all, Open RAN is mostly dead. You heard it FIRST from EJL Wireless Research. Fine for rural markets and private wireless. The wall of radios in the AMD booth will be a “Wall of Death” over the next 12-24 months. BTW, Team Japan (DKK, Dengyo, Fujitsu, and NEC) survives as supporting cast members to the incumbents for Open RAN.
