Biography
Hello! I am the assistant editor at the American Jewish World in Minnesota. I studied journalism at the University of Minnesota’s Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I also completed the Certificate in Editing and Publishing through my university, and I have minors in English and Spanish. Other languages I have studied include American Sign Language, Portuguese and Hebrew. I also work in marketing and communications, and I teach in the Minneapolis suburbs where I am from. Prior to the American Jewish World, I was the assistant copy desk chief at the Minnesota Daily. My American Jewish World work focuses on the Jewish community, and otherwise much of my reporting focuses on the arts and diversity.

By Elana Warren| TC Jewfolk@ If you want to relish a show with well fermented jokes like this one, you can see Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company’s A Pickle written by Deborah Yarchun and directed by Craig Johnson. The one-person, one-hour show centered on Twin Cities local Doris Rubenstein — and her pickles — seems to be more a descriptive telling than a dramatic play. With a jar for baking, a jar for upbringing, and a jar for retirement ideas, you wouldn’t think a simple jar of pickles belongs.
By Elana Warren| TC Jewfolk@ Simon (Josh Howie) tries to chat up Ruth (Rachel Gaffin) as Paul (Tim Downie) looks on. I was looking for something to watch on Amazon Prime, and the word Jewish caught my eye. The show’s title is The Jewish Enquirer, which is also the name of the news site the main character, Paul (Tim Downie), works for. As a Jewish journalist with experience at a Jewish publication, I was compelled to watch it even though the trailer had not caught my interest.
By Elana Warren| TC Jewfolk@ Spending more than a year on the road can make anyone feel disconnected from their roots — even for a Broadway veteran. That is what brought Dear Evan Hansen actor Aaron Lazar to the Sabes JCC this past Monday and Wednesday. Lazar said an actor’s life is pretty self-centered, so he decided to begin volunteering as a way to give back and connect with his Judaism.
