Biography
Dr. Elizabeth Yuko is an award-winning journalist and bioethicist, and an adjunct professor of ethics at Fordham University. She is a contributing editor to Rolling Stone, and has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Bloomberg CityLab, Teen Vogue, Playboy, Ms. Magazine, Vulture, Popular Mechanics, Reader’s Digest, Lifehacker, Salon and Refinery29 among others. Dr. Yuko earned a Ph.D. in bioethics at Dublin City University (Ireland) in 2012, as well as an LL.M. in migration law, and an M.A. in international security and conflict studies from Dublin City University in 2009 and 2007, respectively. Dr. Yuko has published on bioethics regulations in Ireland and Europe, issues of consent and residual biological materials, research ethics, and the ethics of mental health therapies. She serves as an external ethics expert for the European Research Council. Dr. Yuko has worked in both academia and media/communications for more than 20 years, performing a wide range of tasks including working as a journalist and editor; academic and legal writing and research; and working as an ethics consultant and communications strategist in the U.S. and abroad. Her primary research interests include public health ethics, sexual health and reproductive ethics, and research ethics. Dr. Yuko lectures and appears on panels discussing various topics in bioethics, public health and design, feminism, sexual assault, history, architecture, and popular culture. She gave a TEDx talk on bioethics and The Golden Girls, and has appeared on episodes of the Travel Channel's Mysteries at the Museum and Beyond the Unknown.
