Biography
I'm an associate professor of journalism at the State University of New York at Fredonia. I edited the JAM (Journal of Americana Music) for the non-profit Sportsmen's Americana Music Foundation for five years, I blog occasionally at https://newsandetc.com and I have made two documentaries and many music videos. I previously spent 23 years with the Buffalo News as a sports copy editor and as a general assignment reporter while also freelancing music and arts journalism pieces. I spent six years on the board of directors of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and wrote many of the bios for their inductees on their website.

The National Rifle Association was having its national convention in Houston, just days after 19 children and two teachers were gunned down by a teenager in a Texas school and less than two weeks after 10 black people were gunned down by a teenager in Buffalo for, well, being black. The NRA, of course, has responded with its usual tropes that it's people, not weapons, that kill. Also, it says, people would be safer if more of them were able to shoot back.
