Elwyn Lopez, native of Madrid, Spain, is an international journalist based at CNN's World Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. She oversaw CNN's news coverage of El Chapo's escape and recapture in Mexico, and field produced some of the most highlighted U.S. news events of this year such as the Baltimore riots after Freddie Gray's death, the mass church shooting in Charleston, and the fatal floods across Texas. Lopez also covered the marathon bombing in Boston, the Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut and the Aurora theater shooting in Colorado while based in Atlanta. Lopez graduated with honors from the Meek School of Journalism in Oxford. While studying journalism, she attended the Institut Supérior du Commerce in Paris, France where she filmed a documentary on tourism and the negative effects on permanent citizens. She is also the co-president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in Atlanta, and served as president for the Society of Professional Journalists at the University of Mississippi. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French and speaks basic Portuguese.
