Emily Schwing is a multimedia and investigative journalist. A former news director once said she "has a classic approach to bird-dogging good stories." She holds a Geology degree from Carleton College and she spent three years in graduate school at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, where she studied climate change. Emily has covered land and wildlife management, wildfire and local government extensively. She also spends much of her time focused on tribal affairs. More than a decade in Alaska garnered Emily the title 'Mushing Correspondent.' She's covered the 1000 mile Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race five times and the 1000 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race four times. In total, she has produced more than 10,000 miles of tales from the trail. Emily will travel far and wide for a good story. A colleague once told her "If I'm not on the road, I don't have a good story," and Emily strives to adhere to that motto. She has reported, predominantly in public radio, from Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington state, Washington DC and Alaska. She has also worked in Western Canada, Far East Russia and Western Europe. Emily produces work for the Center or Investigative Reporting, National Public Radio, Koahnic Broadcasting, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Public Radio International and the BBC. She has contributed to American Public Media, Monitor Radio, Deutsche Welle, fasterskier.com and Mushing Magazine. Before they were defunded, Emily wrote regularly for Arctic Deeply and Al Jazeera America.
