Emma Janzen is a spirits and cocktail journalist, photographer, and award-winning book author. In addition to contributing to The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails, she has been nominated for four James Beard Foundation awards, with The Way of the Cocktail winning for best beverage book with recipes in 2022, and The Bartender's Manifesto winning the same award in 2023. Formerly the digital editor at Imbibe magazine (US) she has since penned stories about global spirits and cocktail cultures for outlets including The New York Times, PUNCH, and Eater. She currently serves as the Midwest Academy Chair for The World's 50 Best Bars, Drinkways Editor for Good Beer Hunting, and is co-authoring The Bartender's Pantry with Jim Meehan. Writing and editing from her home base in the Midwest, she prefers her mezcal neat, her martinis made with gin, and her champagne served in a coupe.
