  • RBA meeting minutes reveal a sense of caution, tip towards rate cut

Unpredictable trade policy from the US government has raised fears of a broader global economic slowdown since that meeting, likely tipping the RBA further towards a rate cut. “It has felt longer than two weeks since the April RBA Board Meeting,” Commonwealth Bank said in an update.

  • Insufficient training holding accountants back with AI adoption: Ipsos

    By Emma Partis| Accounting Times@ Most accountants (85 per cent) are at least ‘fairly willing’ to use AI tech, an April poll by Ipsos has found. However, over half (52 per cent) of accountants reported that insufficient training was a significant barrier to adoption of AI. “Upskilling remains a critical area of focus, as many accountants lack the confidence to effectively utilise AI tools,” Maciek Ozorowski, head of AI transformation at Ipsos said.

  • Construction and hospitality insolvencies continue to climb: ASIC

    By Emma Partis| Accounting Times@ Annual insolvencies have been rising across all sectors since 2022, the ASIC data showed. ASIC insolvency data as of 30 March 2025 indicate that 3,306 companies became insolvent for the first time in the first three months of the year. Restructuring appointments have seen a seven-fold increase over the past three years, climbing from 295 in the financial year to March 2023, to 2,206 in the financial year to March 2025.
