Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle
The Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle is a hyper-local newspaper that serves two affluent villages in south suburban Cook County, Illinois, with a racially diverse population of 30,000 people. The mission is to chronicle the life of the community, so we cover two village governments, three school districts, business and economic development, breaking news, events, local history, community issues and people. We publish about 1,200 stories per year with a staff of three editors, nine independent journalists, a graphic designer, a sales consultant and a news clerk. The business is primarily supported by advertising along with growing reader revenue. The Chronicle was started by a journalist, Eric Crump, who was aghast that a thriving community of this size did not have its own news organization. He was soon joined by two retired journalists, Marilyn Thomas and Tom Houlihan, who had long experience working in news and public relations in the Southland. Tom has since retired from the Chronicle and former Chicago Tribune editor Randall Weissman joined the editing team.
