Legislators fought rhetorically on the Assembly floor, but members still managed to share conversation over a beer and burger after-hours. I remember taking Rep. John Gower, R-Green Bay, to the airport. He was a pilot, and when he found out I had never been on a plane, he offered me a quick tour of the skies above Madison. It was a kind gesture I never forgot.
