From 2019 to 2023, 42% of fatal pedestrian crashes occurred on Maryland state roads, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) told me. Yet state roads make up only about 16% of Maryland’s 31 million miles of highways according to MDOT 2023 Mileage Reports.
