  • A taste of Morocco for the Passover seder

By Ethel Hofman| JNS Verified (April 4, 2025 / JNS)For Jews throughout the Diaspora, Passover is celebrated for eight days. The first seder begins on the evening of Saturday, April 12—the 15th of the Jewish month of Nisan—and ends on the evening of Sunday, April 20. But in Israel, Passover is observed for seven days. After the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE, when the Jewish people were scattered, an additional day was added so that news of the holiday could reach countries and areas outside of Jerusalem.
