Evelyn is a human rights advocate and a communications professional committed to challenging dominant cultural, and religious narratives that oppress women, girls and young people. She has advocated for sexual and reproductive health protection and rights for 6 years. She also writes for the local dailies in Kenya. Evelyn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Media studies with focus on Development Communications from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Public Relations from The Cooperative University of Kenya. She is a 2024 Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholar and currently pursuing her Masters of Social Science in Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University. As a young leader, she has served in various capacities. At SheDecides Movement, Evelyn served among nine other young global leaders in the Youth Accountability Panel where she held the movement accountable to its commitments and pushed for intentional and meaningful engagement of young leaders. At Africa Free of New HIV Infections (AfNHi), she served as a young people’s representative for three years ensuring youth leadership across the consortium on matters HIV research and new HIV prevention technologies. She is an international sexual health trainer (Trainer4Life) with Dance4Life Foundation where she trained 1000s of young people on comprehensive sexual and reproductive health. While working for Reproductive Health Network Kenya, Evelyn ensured youth leadership. Currently, Evelyn serves part time as the Youth and Communications Manager at Nyanam International a not-for-profit organization in Kisumu Kenya that prepares widows and their children to lead positive community transformation. She is a member of the Young Women HIV Prevention Council hosted by Coalition to Accelerate and Support Prevention Research (CASPR). Evelyn loves writing, reading African authored history books, and nature walks.
