Shetland animal sanctuary rescues 'tiniest seal pup' after being found injured on beach 'pecked at by birds'
By Victoria Pease Verified, Fabiana Cacace Verified| STV News (Glasgow and West) Verified An animal sanctuary has rescued ‘the smallest grey seal pup it has ever seen’ after it was found injured on a beach in Shetland. The pup was found by a dog walker climbing up a beach towards St Ninian’s Isle on Thursday morning. Scottish SPCA inspector Vhairi Graham attended the scene and found the half-moulted pup was covered in small wounds, thought to have been caused by birds pecking at the seal’s face, body and flippers.

James Duthie, who works on board Sunbeam FR487, filmed the ‘rare’ encounter on Friday. He told STV News: “We were fishing mackerel and the whales were swimming along us as we were going back to the east side of Shetland, not far from shore, where the fish were located.
