By Sandeep Das, Alexandra C Finney, Sumit Anand, Alia Ghrayeb, Kelley G. Núñez, Fabio Arias, M. Peyton McKinney, Chowdhury S. Abdullah, Andrew Yurochko, Christopher G. Kevil, Babak Razani, Erin H. Seeley, Gretchen Galliano, Bo Wei, Iqbal Mahmud, Ida L. Surakka, Minerva T. Garcia-Barrio, Philip L. Lorenzi, Eyal Gottlieb, Eduardo Salido, Jifeng Zhang, A. Orr, Ari Cohen Verified, Brenna H. Pearson-Gallion, Jose A. Gomez-Vidal, Elizabeth D. Cockerham, Monica Diaz-Gavilan, Paul T. Thevenot, Arif Yurdagul Jr| Nature Verified AbstractThe incidence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is on the rise, and with limited pharmacological therapy available, identification of new metabolic targets is urgently needed. Oxalate is a terminal metabolite produced from glyoxylate by hepatic lactate dehydrogenase (LDHA). The liver-specific alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase (AGXT) detoxifies glyoxylate, preventing oxalate accumulation.
