Communication and Story Manager, Greenpeace Africa

Johannesburg, Nairobi

Biography

I am a seasoned Communications and Storytelling professional with over 17 years of experience in international journalism, crafting compelling narratives, managing media relations, and driving impactful digital campaigns. Currently, I serve as the Communications and Story Manager at Greenpeace Africa, where I lead storytelling efforts across the continent, ensuring our communication strategies align with global advocacy goals. My expertise lies in enhancing campaign visibility, securing key media placements, and growing digital engagement through innovative content creation. Before joining Greenpeace Africa, I spent several years as a Senior Reporter and Presenter at BBC Africa, honing my journalism skills on some of the continent's most critical issues. During my time at the BBC, I covered major stories that brought global attention to urgent humanitarian crises, including the extreme hunger situation in Somalia and the plight of refugees in Dadaab following U.S. policy changes. I also had the privilege of being the first foreign journalist to interview Somalia’s President Mohammed Abdullahi, shedding light on the challenges of post-civil war peacebuilding in South Sudan. My work at the BBC was instrumental in elevating African narratives globally, consistently delivering in-depth, well-researched stories resonating with worldwide audiences. My professional journey is fueled by a deep passion for using storytelling as a tool for social change, particularly in areas like climate justice, human rights, and development communication. This passion, combined with my ability to train and mentor others in media skills, and my experience in crisis communication, has consistently empowered teams to engage with the public and media effectively
