Biography

My first experience with a video game was back in 1991 when I got my Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas. Ever since that day when I took a whiff of that magical instruction manual and plugged in my Zapper to shoot some digital ducks, I’ve been enjoying all the joys that come from playing video games. One day during one my college writing classes it dawned on me. Games are just as fun to write about too. I currently freelance for Gamepressure and have written for GamesRadar, Mac|Life, 1UP, and other smaller websites. I also serve as Gaming Editor for Blast Magazine.

  • Tempest Rising Review: A commanding presence

By Giancarlo Saldana Verified| Game Pressure Verified Tempest Rising enters the battlefield with a heavy legacy on its shoulders. At first glance, you can easily say the game is a more modern take on Westwood’s classic title, and you could even say the game is inching on plagiarism considering how similar it is to how Command & Conquer plays—two factions have it out for each other, some vehicles even have the same name, and composer Frank Klepacki even worked on the soundtrack.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Review: A world worth revisiting

By Giancarlo Saldana Verified| Game Pressure Verified When I play an open-world game, one of my first instincts is to explore the map, marking waypoints and identifying landmarks for easy access later on. I often wander off course from the main objective, but I see it as valuable prep work that will make tackling the main missions much easier down the line. In a game like Xenoblade Chronicles X, where the world itself is the star, this exploration proves to be incredibly rewarding.

  • Atomfall Review: A union jack of all trades

By Giancarlo Saldana Verified| Game Pressure Verified On paper, Atomfall sounds a lot like the Fallout games. You wake up after a nuclear attack, emerge from a bunker, and are forced to fend for yourself in a world you aren’t too familiar with. Those similarities seemingly end there the moment you play Rebellion’s survival RPG that feels more like an amalgamation of a few genres than a direct Fallout-inspired game.
