Gil Duran started his journalism career at the San Jose Mercury News in 1998. In 2003, he transitioned into political communications, working as a spokesman and strategist for Jerry Brown, Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris. In 2018, he returned to journalism as California opinion editor of The Sacramento Bee, writing columns and editorials on local, state and national issues. In 2021, he became Editorial Page Editor of The San Francisco Examiner. He currently writes the FrameLab Newsletter (Substack) and regularly contributes to the San Francisco Chronicle and other publications.
