Gilly Smith is a freelance journalist, presenting and producing the delicious. podcast for delicious.magazine, and producing The Big Table with Philip Lymbery, CEO of Compassion in World Farming. She has worked in food for 25 years, and specialised in food media as a senior lecturer in journalism at the University of Brighton. A researcher on Channel Four's first series on the stories behind food, Food File, she wrote The Mediterranean Health Diet: How to Lose Weight and Live Longer in 1992 with the series producer, Rowena Goldman after the success of their episode on the world's healthiest diet. She has written biographies of Jamie Oliver (The Man, the Food, the Revolution, 2006 and 2008) and Nigella Lawson (2005) and wrote about the development of food cultures in Australia in conversation with its immigrant chefs (New Food from the New World, 1998). She explored narratives in food and identity and the power of storytelling in her academic publications: Nigellissima: a study of glamour, performativity and embodiment and Barthes on Jamie: Myth and the TV Revolutionary.
