After passersby saw the vandalism, Tryon resident Chris Tinkler took to Facebook to spread the word about plans for “peaceful protest” of the sign’s defacement on Sunday. However, now that the sign has been taken down, Tinkler said he doesn’t see much point in holding a rally.
