Biography

I began my post-college career (Purdue University, W. Lafayette, Indiana) with a worldwide telecommunications company in Jacksonville, Arkansas, having relocated from Chicago, Illinois. (Culture shock!) I advanced through the technical field of telecommunications at a time when women were practically nonexistent in the industry. I managed the deployment of hundreds of technically trained associates over tens of thousands of miles and balanced a multi-million-dollar budget. I was the first female in the Arkansas/Texas/New Mexico Southwest Company to be appointed to the position of Network Operations: Resource Manager. As a development professional, I’ve held the titles of executive director, chief advancement officer, chief grants officer, development director, grants specialist, director of grants, and development specialist. Each development position I’ve held included writing internal and external documents. In 2014, I was offered distribution through the Scripps-Howard daily budget and GANNETT (part of the USA Today network). I became a columnist with Tribune News Service in 2017. I have written for 3p Media, focusing on corporate culture and ESG, CSR and DEI. My writing involves extensive research for supporting data analysis and a deep dive into the inner workings of major corporations. As a writer for 3p Media, I specialized in the areas of DEI and CSR. By interviewing C-suite and other corporate leaders, I write feature stories for many brand name corporations: Ben & Jerry’s, 3M, Delta Airlines, Estee Lauder, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Lush, and others. As companies worldwide recognize the importance of their rankings based on ESG, DEI and CSR, I have also analyzed and written about other corporations' failures and successes: Disney, Etsy, Facebook and Amazon, for example. My assignments require extensive research of DEI issues and networking with industry leaders regarding data reporting. Summarizing and encapsulating data into content is also part of my function. Since January, as a contract writer through Creative Circle, I have collaborated with Securian Financial Services in Minnesota to conduct interviews and write first-person employee biographies relative to their personal diversity experiences and how, through this lens, they describe the efforts of the company to achieve equity and satisfy corporate social responsibility (CSR). Here is a link to the website for Securian featuring the stories for the “Be You With Us” series. https://www.securian.com/about-us/newsroom/be-you-with-us.html More than just a statement on DEI on the website, the “Be You With Us” series and similar projects are especially valuable for today’s corporations and nonprofits. By publishing personalized stories, companies can demonstrate their commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in a tangible and meaningful way for recruiting purposes and as an assurance to their vendors and clients that they are a company trending in the right direction with regard to DEI and responsible management/employee practices. (Future stories could also include investors and board members.) I would be excited to help your organization with such a project! I’ve had quite a bit of experience with ESG and the DEI/CSR components over the last 18 months. Employee and C-suite interviews are central to my stories, including with a digital magazine focused on ESG and sustainability in general, Triple Pundit (3p) Media. Here is a link to my published page. https://www.triplepundit.com/story/2022/how-one-brand-continues-get-social-responsibility-right/748756 I’ve also written feature stories on DEI and CSR with C-suite notables from several corporations: Ben & Jerry’s, Delta Airlines, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), 3M, BMC Software, Estee Lauder, Soprana Personnel (Ukraine), RBIJ (London), Lush (Uganda, Guatemala, Peru and Arizona) and others. As a nationally and internationally syndicated writer for almost nine years, I also write opinion-editorial essays categorized as social commentary. I have been published in the Chicago Tribune, Newsday, USA Today, Sacramento Bee, Miami Herald, the Houston Chronicle, and others. I have been published in Stars & Stripes (a military newspaper), Gulf News in Saudi Arabia and the Korean Times. You will find a listing of some of my op-eds in my LinkedIn profile. As a result of this varied and fulfilling background as a senior-level telecom manager with a multi-million-dollar budget and having executive nonprofit experience combined with my writing experience as an op-ed columnist, newspaper reporter, blogger, web content contributor, and ghostwriter—I am able to execute many different types of projects successfully. In addition to the Securian project and as a writer for Triple Pundit, my most recent projects have been most enjoyable! • writing an annual report for a university organization • authoring an eBook on ESG for a software company to use for onboarding • developing web content for a national medical foundation • writing blogs on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) for a nonprofit organization’s website, and • composing press releases for a community development company My references are stellar! Personal History The safety and development of children is my passion. I completed certification as a juvenile probation officer and Texas Family Law at Sam Houston State University, becoming certified as a Home Study Specialist contracted through Child Protective Services. I am a surrogate mother to three daughters and biological mom to one daughter. I lost my son, Elliot, on January 21, 1988. My background is somewhat unique in terms of personal experiences, places I have worked and lived, cultures I have been exposed to, and, not least, having been raised in a household of five siblings by Mother Theresa and Booker T. Washington, anecdotally speaking, of course. As a result, I have a powerful belief in education, personal responsibility and service. My writing is informed by a broad view of life through diverse cultural experiences, education, and a unique childhood inspired by two conscientious parents. I grew up in a large city, and I am now living as an empty nester on the edge of the Chihuahua desert in west Texas. The cultural and social experiences that exist along my life's trajectory have been rich, indeed!
