Casella spokesman Jeff Weld said they are produced by Big Belly Waste Management of Needham, Massachusetts. “We’ve used them in other locations and they’re pretty popular in other municipal locations,” Weld said. “They have sensors in them that monitor the fill levels and send out an alert to the local hauling division.

Recreation Superintendent Kim Peters told a Rutland Herald reporter on Jan. 8 that the department had conducted background checks on all its volunteers.
