Biography

Hamlin has 18 years of experience doing investment and economic analysis and writing. He has been Contributing Editor to The Hedge Fund Journal since 2010, researching and authoring profiles of hedge fund manager and service providers, as well as reports such as 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds, and Tomorrow’s Titans. Hamlin has been analysing, monitoring and carrying out due diligence on hedge funds since 2003. Between 2005 and 2009 he co-managed a fund of hedge funds, for Millennium Global Investments. From 2011 to 2013 he was co-portfolio manager, assisting the CIO, at IMQubator in Amsterdam, which was seeding early stage hedge funds for Europe’s largest pension fund, APG. Between 2014 and 2017 he was Head of Research for Tomlinson Research, which provides outsourced hedge fund research for family offices. Before entering the hedge fund industry, he was a UK government economist, equity analyst and equity journalist. Hamlin is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder and a CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) charterholder. He has graded exam papers in the USA for CFA Institute and the CAIA Association. He also helps CAIA Association with curriculum development, and has sat on the executive committee of the London Chapter of the CAIA Association. He has written for blogs including the CAIA Association’s All About Alpha, and the CFA Institute’s Enterprising Investor and Inside Investing. He also holds the FRM (Financial Risk Manager) designation. He graduated in Economics from the University of Leicester.
